Skansen Welcomes IUFRO World Congress with Tree Planting Ceremony

At Royal Djurgården, it is essential for us to be a place for meetings and dialogues for a more sustainable future. We carry this tradition from the great Stockholm Exhibition of 1897, where the latest technology was showcased here. Now, we are delighted to welcome the IUFRO World Congress to Stockholm, marking another significant event inspired by Djurgården, this time at Skansen.

On June 23rd, the IUFRO World Congress – a major international conference focused on trees and forests – will commence with a traditional tree planting ceremony at Skansen. Skansen, a cornerstone of Swedish cultural heritage and the natural place for such a significant event, provides an ideal backdrop for showcasing our ongoing efforts towards sustainability and highlighting the importance of collective engagement in addressing global environmental challenges.

What is IUFRO?

IUFRO is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists that promotes global cooperation in forest-related research and enhances understanding of the ecological, economic, and social aspects of forests and trees. IUFRO is “the” global network for forest science cooperation, uniting more than 15,000 scientists in nearly 700 member organizations across over 110 countries, and is a member of ICSU. Scientists participate in IUFRO on a voluntary basis.

Of Course, Skansen

Founded in 1891, Skansen is the world’s largest open-air museum and a vital institution in preserving and presenting Swedish history and culture. At Skansen, visitors can explore Sweden’s past and see how Swedes lived according to the changing seasons, through customs, traditions, work, celebrations, and everyday life of the past. Additionally, Skansen features a unique animal park with Nordic animals such as moose, reindeer, and arctic foxes. Its rich heritage and commitment to education make Skansen the perfect setting for the IUFRO World Congress.

We are happy that IUFRO has chosen to be with us, and we look forward to hosting more meetings in the future. We aim to share knowledge and promote meaningful discussions that will contribute to a more sustainable world.
