Stromma launches its first electric sightseeing boat

How quiet can it go? Really quiet is the answer we experienced firsthand as Stromma presented its first electric sightseeing boat, now navigating the waters of Stockholm and around Royal Djurgården. It was so quiet we could hear the waves outside the windows. What a pure delight!

Of course, this boat isn’t just quiet; it’s also fossil-free, meaning it emits no greenhouse gases or particles like traditional diesel-powered boats do. A significant environmental gain for our city and for Djurgården.

Regulations in place – beneficial for all

The challenge was to convert the boat from a diesel engine to electricity without specific regulations to follow. Now the regulations are in place, opening up for more to follow. From Stromma’s side, this is part of a long-term strategy. With its new name – E/S Prins Daniel, this is the first of 10 vessels soon to be converted. We all look forward to following your work.

Thanks to Finance Commissioner Karin Wanngård for naming the vessel and to Stromma’s Peter Henricson, Patric Sjöberg, and the team for making it possible.

More E/S in the future?

You might be used to seeing M/S in a ship’s name, which stands for Motor Ship. This one reads E/S, meaning Electric Ship. Let’s hope we see more E/S in the future.

One of our common goals is to be traffic-smart and fossil-free, and this is a significant step towards achieving that. Imagine if all transportation to and on Djurgården were completely fossil-free – wonderful. And quiet. It’s a future vision for Stockholm that we are proud to be a part of.
