Plogging is the popular Swedish activity that combines jogging with picking up litter. However, today I’m trying something different — let’s call it pralling. It’s my personal blend of strolling and picking up litter as I wander through the beautiful Royal Djurgården, from the Nordiska museet to the Tekniska museet, via the charming Rosendals Trädgård. The experience is wonderful and, to be honest, not too challenging since this area is already quite clean.
But as I pick up the occasional piece of litter, I’m reminded of the larger issue we all face: the fight against single-use plastics. Despite the tidiness of this area, I still come across plastic wrappers, bottles, and bags — remnants of a convenience-driven culture that often overlooks the long-term impact on our environment.
Here at Djurgården, we are committed to reducing single-use plastics. Recently, we also launched a special project to focus on this together. It is an important part of our collective effort.
However, it is also an individual responsibility. It might be a small act, picking up litter while I walk, but it’s part of a much bigger movement. More and more people are becoming aware of the need to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics. Whether it’s through initiatives like plogging, pralling, or simply making more conscious choices in our daily lives, we’re all contributing to a collective effort to protect our planet.
As I stroll through Djurgården, I’m grateful for the natural beauty around me and the shared commitment to keep it that way. Every piece of litter picked up is a step toward a cleaner, healthier world. And while my pralling today might seem like a small gesture, it’s one that I hope adds to the momentum of change. Together, we can make a significant difference in reducing plastic waste and preserving our beautiful spaces for future generations.
