International Day for Biological Diversity

– and we’re celebrating it in the world’s first National City Park!

Royal Djurgården is Stockholmers’ green living room – home to over 800 species of flowering plants, 1,200 species of beetles, and 100 species of nesting birds. It also hosts Northern Europe’s largest population of ancient oaks – vital to hundreds of insect species. Biodiversity is the foundation of life – and we all need to take part in protecting it.

In our part of the National City Park – which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – a lot is happening. The Royal Djurgården Administration manages the green areas with care for biodiversity. Restaurants are planting pollinator-friendly gardens, and of course, you’ll find beehives both at the Rosendal Garden Foundation and at Skansen. Together, we’re creating a buzz in Stockholm! 🐝

Want to contribute? Here are a few simple ways to support our pollinators:
🐝 Plant flowers that bees and bumblebees love – in your garden or on your balcony
🌼 Let part of your lawn grow wild and bloom
✂️ Mow the grass less often – ideally in stages
🌳 Leave dead wood and branches – many insects thrive there
🚫 Avoid pesticides
🏡 Put up a bug hotel – or build one yourself

Celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity with us.
