In September, Royal Djurgården entered the international list Green Destinations Top 100 Sustainability Stories with a contribution that describes the joint sustainability work being done at Djurgården. Now it is clear that Djurgården is competing among the foremost to inspire others. At its core is a story of approximately 6 years of work. With challenges, solutions, and the strength of working together for a wise and long-term sustainable development of the destination.
Djurgården at the Top 100 Sustainability Stories list for 2022
Green Destinations Top 100 Sustainability Stories is an annual competition that collects and celebrates sustainable tourism initiatives and best practices from destinations worldwide. The aim of the competition is to inspire sustainable leadership in the hospitality industry. The competition started in 2014 by highlighting 100 sustainable destinations as good examples and inspiring other destinations as well as visitors.
The goal to inspire sustainable leadership in the hospitality industry
In order to participate in the competition, the destination must report basic sustainability measures according to Green Destination’s criteria. Royal Djurgården has successfully met this requirement with the work that earlier this year led to receiving the Green Destinations Platinum Award. In August 2022, the destination submitted an entry that describes Djurgården’s long-term and strategic way of working. And on how to go from words to action in order to reach jointly adopted sustainability goals together. At the Green Destinations 2022 Future of Tourism Summit in Athens in September, it was announced that the Royal Djurgården’s story made it onto the Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories 2022 list. And has now been nominated to be one of the top 100.
– We are honored to be nominated as top of the top inspiring stories. We focus on sharing knowledge and action in our sustainability work. If the story of how we work together can inspire other destinations we would be proud, says Camilla Zedendahl, CEO, the Royal Djurgårdens Society.
