Challenge identified, action initiated

Reducing Food Waste at Royal Djurgården

At Royal Djurgården, we believe that the future of sustainability relies not only on individual efforts but on meaningful partnerships and shared commitment. This conviction drives our latest initiative: a united effort among 23 restaurants across Djurgården, all working to tackle food waste.

The starting point was a simple yet challenging question—how can we reduce the substantial food waste that accumulates across our restaurants? Inspired by the UN’s goal to halve global food waste by 2030, we decided to take measurable action. Together, we now share a common systems set up by Generation Waste in order to to track and monitor waste, empowering each restaurant to gain a clear picture of their individual and collective impact. Over the past year, this data has already started driving informed decisions and smarter resource management.

While we know change takes time, our sights are set high. With each small step, we are shaping Djurgården into a destination that not only champions culture and recreation but also leads by example in sustainability. We hope our actions will inspire other destinations, visitors, and communities to join us on this journey toward a waste-free future.

We are grateful to Besöksliv for covering this journey so far, and I invite you all to follow our progress here on our platform as we continue to share insights and updates on our achievements. We look forward to inspiring others and proving that sustainable change is not only possible but essential.
